REMEMBERING
Reid Charles Wiley
September 3, 1992 — December 29, 2020
Those who knew Reid described him as one of the most genuine, kind, caring, and selfless people they had ever met. He approached life with a passionate, fiery energy that was larger than life itself. He was always there when friends and family needed him and brought joy and happiness to people in his own unique, carefree way that naturally drew others to him.
Reid’s hockey journey, in United States, began with the Parma Hockey Association Flyers in 2000, where he won his first championships. He went on to play for Strongsville Youth Hockey, winning Peewee and Bantam championships, before joining the Medina High School varsity team.
His junior career included time with the Cleveland Junior Jacks and Wooster Oilers, developing his skills and competitive spirit. Reid then played five seasons at the University of Akron in the ACHA Division II, wearing #22 as a right-shooting forward.
On December 29, 2020, Reid passed away at age 28 due to complications from asthma. His loss devastated his family, friends, and the hockey community that knew and loved him.
After Reid’s passing, his parents Glenn and Mary, along with their daughter Erin, spent a year in mourning before deciding to channel their grief into action. In 2022, they established the Reid Wiley Charitable Foundation to keep their son’s name alive and ensure no other family has to experience the tragedy of losing a loved one to asthma.
